A Short Documentary About ‘El Paquete Semanal’, The Underground Network of Pirated Media Distributed Throughout Cuba

“El Paquete Semanal” or “The Weekly Package” is an underground network of pirated media distributed throughout Cuba. It is the subject of a recent Vox documentary.

Officially, Cuba only has state-operated media outlets, so to get access to international media from other parts of the world, Cuban citizens must turn to other means.

In Cuba there is barely any internet. Anything but the state-run TV channels is prohibited. Publications are limited to the state-approved newspapers and magazines. This is the law. But, in typical Cuban fashion, the law doesn’t stop a vast underground system of entertainment and news media distributors and consumers.
