The American Deli in Paris making Bingo Night Cool Again

Sunday nights in the deepest of winter can be downright depressing in Paris. Ugh.

But they don’t have to be. I’ve found a little place that washes that winter blues right out of my hair…

Let’s be honest, when most of us think of Bingo, we think of older ladies in large numbers. But the thing is, it’s actually a really fun game to play, so why should they get to have all the fun?!

Not so sure? Okay, come with me…

It looks like the bingo balls have started rolling to let’s step inside the warmth of Freddie’s Deli (careful not to hit yourself with the heavenly scent of house-made pastrami or cheese steak sandwiches on the way in).

For a little background, Freddie’s Deli was opened last year by Kristin Frederick, who swapped Los Angeles for Paris several years ago to launch the city’s first burger truck, Le Camion qui Fume. The food truck scene (and the burger scene) basically exploded in Paris because of the buzz Kristin’s burgers received. I even begged Kristin to cater for my own dirty thirty birthday this year and those juicy little things were a hands down hit.

So Freddie’s is her second foodie venture in Paris (she’s opening a Chinese spot soon) and to bring a little cheer to the neighbourhood, what could go better with pastrami and Brooklyn beer than Bingo!?

Choose from a menu of sandwiches with American names like “Fat Freddie from Philly” and my personal favourite, the “G-Thang” (oh yes, Kristin loves Hip-Hop music by the way, so be prepared to shake your booty in between Bingo calls). Now pick up a game card and start feeling lucky!

(That cute little baby cactus ↑ is one of the first prizes we won– they’re all personally picked out by Kristin during the week).

You can join anytime, the game works as an ongoing thing so don’t worry about being there at a certain time. This is Freddie’s and Freddie is just as laid back as you’re feeling on a Sunday!

The cozy spot fills up with local Parisians and ex-pats alike throughout the evening, who all come for Kristin’s famous sandwiches and the friendly never-ending weekend vibe…

While grooving to the baddest hip hop tracks on her iPod, K-Dubz (Kristin) helps to call out the bingo numbers from behind the bar while packing in her buns with pastrami that’s brined, marinated, smoked and steamed in-house.

They’re so deliciously stuffed and oozy, just the kind of comfort you need at the end of the weekend!

Yep, people go a little nuts for these sandwiches.

But back to the Bingo! (c) snapped by my other bingo buddy @girlmeetswhirl

There are no quiet bingo winners at Freddie’s. When you get Bingo, you shout it loud and proud.

(Much to the dismay of the guy in the kitchen– he hasn’t won a single game all night).

And as the prizes get a little whackier…

So does the crowd…

Who knew Bingo could be so damn fun?!

So that’s Freddie’s Deli Bingo Night! Don’t miss it and stop by any Sunday at 22 Rue Crespin du Gast, 75011 from 6pm.

A Short Documentary Takes a Look Inside the Wilson Football Factory, The Official Football of the NFL

Published by:

Inside a Wilson Football Factory” is a short documentary produced by Vijai Singh and Ashley Maas for The New York Times that takes a look inside the Wilson football factory which produces the official football of the NFL. The documentary focuses on Jane Helser, who worked at the factory sewing footballs for nearly 50 years.

While the video focuses on how to properly construct a football, it does not address how to properly inflate one, or how to maintain proper inflation during championship games.
